IN-PERSON: The Glory of Glycerites with Drea Moore of Sober Herbalist - February 1st, 5-6:30PM

*Glycerites are fluid extracts of an herb or medicinal substance made using glycerin for the constituent extraction, instead of the more commonly used alcohol.

Learn how to make strong non-alcoholic botanical extracts with glycerine and spark a new dimension of possibilities in your herbal apothecary!

Culinarians and mixologists use glycerine with fervor to create remarkably deep and aromatic flavor profiles that dazzle with poetic complexity to showcase nature’s flavor spectrum.

In addition to making the medicine even tastier (and sometimes stronger!), there are a number of legitimate reasons an herbalist needs glycerites on hand.

This workshop is tailored for herbalists desiring to achieve more flavorful, lower alcohol content medicine in their tincture formulas. It's also a chance to become an herbalist who can provide non-alcoholic extracts for people abstaining from alcohol.

We can all greatly benefit from incorporating “glycerites” in our herbal medicine-making work. Attend this workshop to learn how.

In this 2 hour medicine making demo class and lecture, learn how to make glycerites with fresh and dried plant parts and understand why this medicine is a game changer in the herbalist toolkit.

Sample an array of glycerites and come away inspired and equipped to up your herbal medicine making game!

This class will be live in-person at The Scarlet Sage Herb Co., 1193 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.

*COVID Protocols. Masks are required for all participants, although the teacher will be unmasked. Please do not come if you are feeling unwell. Thank you!

I am Drea Moore (cis female) located on occupied Coast Salish and S'Klallam tribal lands (Port Angeles, Washington) and I advocate and teach "sober" herbalism. I am a clinical herbalist currently working with private clients and writing a book about my work and research. I am also a core faculty member at the global online herb school, Land of Verse.

I formally trained in herbalism at the California School of Herbal Studies (3 years of programs) and I have more than 15 years of continuous sobriety with an active recovery program. Before I left California, I was running a free community herbal clinic in my area where I worked with the elderly, the unhoused, and abused women.

I bring consciousness and awareness to the writings, teachings, attitudes and language used to colonize medicine making practices and herbalism and therefore perpetuate myths and practices of exclusion. I voice a non-alcoholic perspective on herbalist practices wherever I teach and participate in wellness.

Contact me if you would like to know more about non-alcoholic herbalism, my classes, event appearances, conferences and symposiums, or my upcoming book.

I believe that we all deserve wellness regardless of class, race, gender, size, etc. I disrupt the obsession with vanity, purity and perfection in wellness spaces. I educate myself and others to foster awareness and compassion.
